ANSWER FIRST

“Rich” has no single financial definition. This tool calculates household net worth and compares it with broad U.S. Survey of Consumer Finances breakpoints, then explains what the comparison leaves out.

Approximate percentile64.9thAmong all U.S. families
Difference from median+$207,916Median: $192,084

Assets − debts, compared with selected 2022 SCF-derived breakpoints. Interpolation between breakpoints is approximate, especially near the top of the distribution.

  • Home equity should be included consistently in both assets and the remaining mortgage debt.
READ THE RESULT

How to use the estimate

  • A percentile describes position in a distribution, not financial security or quality of life.
  • The median is usually more useful than the average because very large fortunes pull the average upward.
  • Liquidity, income stability and spending commitments can matter more than the headline percentile.
LIMITS

What the calculator cannot know

  • This is a U.S. household comparison, not a global rank.
  • Broad published breakpoints cannot produce an exact percentile for an individual household.
  • Survey data lag markets and may not reflect current asset prices.

FAQ

How Rich Am I? Net Worth Comparison Calculator FAQ

What net worth counts as rich?

There is no official cutoff. The top 10% and top 1% are useful distribution markers, but financial security also depends on spending, liquidity, household size and location.

Is this a global wealth calculator?

No. It uses U.S. household data so that the source and comparison unit stay clear.

Why use net worth instead of income?

Income measures a flow over time. Net worth measures assets minus debt at a point in time. They answer different questions.

Should I include my house?

For the closest SCF comparison, include the home’s value in assets and the outstanding mortgage in liabilities.
